Martingale Collar Sizing Tips

Our martingale chain collars are sized based on the neck measurements when the martingale loop is fully extended. The collars themselves are also adjustable. Each has 5 sizing holes for the buckle, so you have a range of neck sizes you can set the collar up for. The middle adjustment hole is the designated size hole and can be adjusted up 2″ and down 2″.

For example, if the size range is 16-20 inches, the collar will open up to 20 inches when fully extended. Likewise, it will tighten down to 16 inches. However, keep in mind that you can still adjust the collar buckle up and down to make the fit perfect.

When using a martingale, you want the collar to fit comfortably at rest. There should be some slack when the dog isn’t pulling and the martingale loop is fully extended. If the dog pulls, the collar will tighten to a firm, but not choking size.

For the best sizing, measure your dog’s neck with 2 fingers between the tape measure and your dog’s neck. Pick the size range in which your dog’s neck size fits comfortably. For example, if you measure your dog’s neck at 18″, order a 16-20″ collar.
